Chief Product Officer
Matter FormulaAbout Matter
Matter is building the first nutrition platform that pairs personalized nutrition intelligence with precisely tailored meals. Think of Matter as a personal nutritionist in your pocket (the app) speaking directly to your private chef (the restaurants). Our app learns each userβs goals, preferences and health data to provide meal recommendations based on their exact nutritional needs. By closing the loop between digital health signals and healthy food preparation, Matter makes precision nutrition as easy as ordering a meal.
The Matter app sits at the center of this experience: nutrition coaching, precision ordering, AI-enabled chat and photo logging, with engagement tools to track progress and inspire action. Wearable device and biomarker integrations support a reinforcement learning cycle to better guide each user and adapt to their evolving needs.
Role Overview
We're looking for a Chief Product Officer to own the Matter app end to end. The app has to win on two fronts: as a standalone subscription product that competes with the best nutrition apps on the market, and as the ordering and tracking layer for our restaurants. Your job is to make each side best-in-class on its own and more powerful together.
You'll lead our engineering and design teams, own the roadmap, and ship quickly against business priorities while continuously improving based on data and user feedback. You'll work directly with the founding team and partner closely with marketing and operations.
Core Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap
Own the full product lifecycle for the Matter app, from vision and discovery through build, launch, and iteration
Be a daily power user of the app and talk to users every week, with firsthand knowledge of where it delights and where it falls short
Know the competitive landscape inside and out, from nutrition and macro tracking apps to leading restaurant ordering experiences, and use it to sharpen where Matter wins
Balance the roadmap between the standalone subscription app and the restaurant ordering experience, making clear, data-backed calls on where to invest
Define how the app serves users with no Matter location nearby while creating clear value for those who can order from us
Own the AI coaching experience and personalization model, including conversational and photo logging, adaptive plans, and wearable and lab integrations
Own the subscription funnel from onboarding through trial-to-paid conversion and retention
Own the product analytics stack and run a steady cadence of experiments, pairing behavioral data with direct user feedback to drive roadmap decisions
Prioritize across new features, core UX, and technical debt, and make clear calls on what not to build
Set product OKRs tied to activation, subscription conversion, retention, order frequency, and LTV
Execution & Team Leadership
Lead engineering and design day to day, with specs clear enough to ship from
Run a fast release cadence with tight scope and quick iteration
Hire and grow the product and design team as we scale
Partner with marketing on launches and lifecycle, and with operations to make sure what the app promises, the kitchen can deliver
Users & Market
Know the nutrition and macro tracking landscape and leading restaurant ordering experiences inside and out
Talk to users every week
What We're Looking For
5β8+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years leading product at an early-stage startup or a small autonomous team
Personally passionate about health, wellness, and fitness; experience using macro tracking apps is a big plus
Deeply data-driven and hands-on with behavioral analytics platforms
Track record of shipping consumer mobile products that moved retention, engagement, or revenue
Experience growing a consumer subscription app, with a strong grasp of conversion and retention metrics
Experience shipping AI or LLM-powered product features, and a clear view of where they help users and where they don't
Uses AI tools daily in their own work, from research and specs to prototyping and data analysis, and knows how to build workflows that make a small team move faster
Sound judgment on prioritization across competing business lines, with a track record of allocating limited engineering resources where they drive the most impact
Experience with health data integrations (Apple Health, Oura, Whoop, CGMs) or ML-driven personalization is a plus
Experience with commerce or ordering flows is a plus
Technical enough to earn engineering's trust: you understand architecture tradeoffs, APIs, and mobile release cycles
Strong product taste and design instincts
Comfortable in ambiguity, with a bias toward shipping over planning
Founder-level ownership mentality; this role will define the product
Why Matter
Build a category-defining consumer product from the ground up
