About the team and the role:
Payments is one of the company’s major growth enablers. Putting customers at the heart of everything we do, we connect communities and empower our people to deliver outstanding commerce experiences to drive eBay’s long-term growth and market share. eBay seeks an experienced Senior Product Manager to develop, optimize and scale the capabilities of eBay's Payments Platform.
This role involves taking on the challenges of evolving a robust marketplace payment solution into a scalable, multi-tenant "Payments-as-a-Service" platform. A critical challenge is to decouple our existing payment boundaries to build a "plug-and-play" suite of services — including embedded payments, compliance, and risk — that can be seamlessly adopted by any tenant, for example eBay subsidiaries. The Product Manager will lead the strategic evolution of the financial services, crafting future-proof interfaces and customizable design components that handle operational heavy-lifting while ensuring tenant isolation and independent scale.
What you will accomplish:
Define and drive the product vision for the "Payments-as-a-Service" track, evolving our embedded payments capabilities for marketplaces as well as a full PayFac offering for subsidiaries and future clients.
Partner with cross-functional teams to design "fit-for-purpose" boundaries between the marketplace and payments layers, ensuring services like acquiring, payouts, financial reporting and ledgering are modular and scalable.
Lead the development of both API-first services and "drop-in" UX components (SDKs) that allow marketplace as well as PayFac tenants to quickly onboard and ramp.
Analyze data and industry trends to identify optimization hypotheses for multi-tenant scaling, focusing on automating onboarding, compliance checks, and financial reconciliation for partners.
Clearly set the product/backlog prioritization with a balance of near-term outcomes (e.g., migrating subsidiary sellers to the new platform) and longer-term investments in platform future-proofing.
Build a case for your hypotheses, A/B test implementation strategies, and implement winners that reduce integration time and operational burden for our tenants.
What you will bring:
7+ years of product management experience
3+ years of experience in payments domain and platform payments processing. Deep knowledge of the payments landscape, embedded payments, white label solutions or PayFac models
Engineering Degree/MBA degree or equivalent experience
Consistent track record of crafting "API-first" platforms and client-facing SDKs/UI components (e.g., drop-in frames for critical data collection).
Strategic approach with the ability to plan execution towards a final "As-a-Service" vision, anticipating future regulatory and scalability needs for diverse tenants
Comfortable making the "tough calls" on trade-offs - balancing speed-to-market with the long-term health of a multi-tenant platform.
Ability to use data to formulate product perspectives, rationalise platform investments, and define success metrics for platform health and reliability.
Experienced in handling complex partner relationships (Legal, Treasury, Risk, and Engineering) to achieve "win-win" outcomes for the platform and its tenants.
